| A McKendry Day plus stuff I did last week. |
[Nov. 29th, 2009|11:47 am] |
Its harder than I thought to keep the future me updated on current me's wanderings...
Anyhoo, yesterday went by in a blur. I actually got myself out of the house by 11 or sometime thereabouts to go pick up McKendry at her place. Went shopping at the Mall at Rockingham Park, well she shopped, I watched lol. Then we got pedies and talk about boy problems.... oh wait, that didn't happen. BUT what did happen was when we were sitting on 97 about to turn on to 28 this tiny orange clown car drives by and I'm SO excited to see this so I give the man a thumbs up and he gives me one back but he has THE most excited face in the world. Highlight of my vacation.
I ate lunch for the first time this vacation, got chinese food and split it with McKendry at the food court. After the mall we went to Newbury Comics then back to her place. Putzed around there but I had to leave around 4:30 to go home and go out for dinner with the family. Came home, sat on my ass until I fell asleep. The end.
PS Future me, since I'm too lazy to give it its own entry:

| The Day After Thanksgiving |
[Nov. 28th, 2009|10:04 am] |
So yesterday was a pretty epic day. I woke up around 11am after some crazy ass dream of fighting with Caroline over how well McDonald's cooks their meat... and somehow they had roast beef too. Anyhoo, my mom comes back in from going to gym or something and within 15 minutes of me being awake I'm already being pestered that she wants to go to Macy's on black friday to get me a pea coat on sale. Sounds like a terrible idea but i acquiesce just to appease her. I figured I wouldn't be able to get into the parking lot anyway. Well, the parking lot is crazy as can be expected. Zero parking spots, easily 70 cars wandering around trying to find a place to park. Somehow after like 7 minutes we do find a parking spot. Go to Macy's, find a coat I really like for like 60% off of $225... BUT they don't have it in small AND every other Macy's in like a 20 miles radius doesn't have it in small either... thus I leave black friday sans coat. :-(
Come home, take a shower, get into a pointless yelling match with my mother, then I'm off to do the most awesome road trip EVER with John... ... let's go to Cambridge to get Eric's Laundry because there is NOTHING else better to do with our lives. (especially since John's brother somehow broke their rock band). We decide that Boston will be crazy due to Black Friday, so we take I-93 to 95, get off at the Pike, exit the pike in Newton. We kind of have a vague idea how to get to Cambridge from here... BUT somehow we end up taking too many right turns and end up going WEST without knowing it. So we end up in Waltham back at 95... So we turn around and make it to Cambridge FINALLY (2.5 hours after leaving my house).
John and I spend FIVE minutes grabbing my laundry and showing him how creepy my basement is. Then we drive 45 minutes home via the normal way.
We eat dinner at our respective houses, then make plans to go drinking. SO, both our brother's suck and say "nah, we can't pick you up at a bar later because we MIGHT be doing something. We dont' want to commit ourselves to something"... ... lovely.
So me and John make plans to meet up with Fulton and Nicole at the Chili's in Burlington... now I'm Designated Driver... :-(
We get there around 8:15. Hang out at the bar with our two lovely companions. I drink very manly diet cokes. We leave the bar around 9:40, and hangout outside Chili's doing strange dances. I'm sure Boston bars are use to this... not Burlington bars... I drive Fulton home, then John. Then me and John go over his house to see that Ian and Chris hadn't done ANYTHING this night. Good call guys. Hung out with John, Ian, Chris, Derek, and Brian.
Then went to bed. The End.
Now its time to go shopping with McKendry. |

| Thanksgiving |
[Nov. 26th, 2009|08:25 pm] |
So, being lame last Sunday night I was nursing my exhaustion by staying in and reading old LJ entries. I realized its kinda cool to see what you were doing so long ago, so I feel like I should start writing about pointless shit again so if I'm ever bored three years from now I'll have something to do... Anyhoo...
Today was Thanksgiving. A different thanksgiving than the previous... all. We didn't have dinner at my house for the first time in my life. My family ended up eating at my Aunt Elaine's house. Man was that crazy. Here's who was there:
Me, Ian, Mom, Dad, Aunt Elaine, Grandma, Uncle Earl, Aunt Claire, Matt, Jeff, Uncle Dave, Aunt Liz, Jen, Amy, Will... that's the 'normal' crowd. Then there was my Uncle Bob... don't know how to put him into words... but just know that he's counted in the same catagory as the others I'm about to list:
My cousin Chris, not his fault and we all love him, but he's mentally retarded and ate lead paint chips as a child, not the best combination.
Amy, the drug addict. It was actually an improvement that she could talk in conversations today. My late cousin Steves adulterous girlfriend. She was taken in by my Aunt Elaine after Steve died.
Mike, Amy's husband... the one she cheated on with Steve. Mike is also a drug addict and lives with Amy at my Aunt's house.
Yes, bizzare. Anyhoo, the night for the most part was fine. Now I'm just tired. Ian is somewhere, dunna, but I'm sitting here writing this while watching Band of Brothers on TV with my dad.
Strangely that's as eventful as today gets. The End. |

I just had an interesting idea when reading a CNN article on Iran's uranium enrichment facility. There is another alternative to producing fissile material without the need for weapons grade uranium; it just costs more. The alternative, and I believe Canada actually uses one of these reactors, is to use deuterated water (heavy water, aka D2O instead of H2O) as a source of neutrons and using regular uranium-238 instead of the weapons grade uranium-235 to sustain nuclear fission. Wouldn't it be in the interest of peace (assuming Iran really is using this enrichment facility to produce U-235 for civilian energy) that the world supply Iran with deuterated water in exchange for the cessation of weapons grade uranium production? I guess it really can't work that way, since if we do it for one country, we'll have to do it for all the other emerging nuclear countries. And also, you would have to compensate Iran for all the effort they have put into developing their processing plants as well as existing nuclear reactors since new plants would have to be constructed for the D2O nuclear reactors.
P.S. I am correct. All of Canada's nuclear reactors are based on this D2O design, and it does only use natural uranium. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CANDU_reactor. Plus it can also use what is traditionally called 'depleted uranium' from other nuclear reactors as fuel AND can 'burn' weapons grade plutonium as fuel. Essentially destroying all that extra weapons grade plutonium that is just lying around (literally) from nuclear nonproliferation from the US and Russia.
P.P.S. And apparently its not only Canada that uses this design, South Korea, China, India, Argentina, Romania, and Pakistan all use this design of a nuclear reactor... so why does Iran really need two really expensive enrichment facilities? One of which doesn't have enough centrifuges to produce sufficient enrich uranium for a reactor but enough for a bomb? And why was this last one kept secret until Iran wrote to the IAEA only a week ago to report to the international community that they had a second enrichment facility only when the US, Britain, and France publicly stated that they had evidence that this second secret facility existed? Yeah... keep telling us that this uranium is for the people Ahmadinejad.
It seems to me that the world isn't quite ready to give up on its nuclear ambitions just yet, even though the General Assembly said the future goal is a nuclear-free world. If there exists these reactors that can actually permanently destroy weapons grade plutonium AND can run off of natural uranium rather than enriched uranium (I should mention to all you non scientists that natural uranium is about 99.3% U-238 and 0.7% U-235, enriched uranium is about 95% U-238 and 5% U-235, and weapons grade uranium is 90% U-235. There is a HUGE difference between nuclear reactor fuel and bomb material). It just seems like all the US and Russia has done is removed the fissile component from their bombs... but just let them sit there saying that its nonproliferation because they aren't in their bombs. Yes, they would have to be re-enriched due to decay and neglect, but essentially it is still usable materiel for a bomb. Why not just 'burn' it to produce civilian energy? We say we want this non-nuclear world, but I don't see that ever happening, especially when words seem to be good enough to appease people. |

| What a wonderful weekend |
[Jun. 14th, 2009|10:17 pm] |
This weekend was quite epic, and sort of started on Thursday. Thursday I got out of work fairly early and was able to head down to Grafton to visit Pam. Mostly we just lied about and were super lazy due to both of us being burnt from working all day. We ended up visiting Spencer for like a second because he had a paper to finish for his online class and then we ended up going to DQ to get blizzards and french fries. I ended up leaving around 11:30pm and drove through quite a terrible storm. :-( My car sucks in the rain.
Friday, work went pretty well and I was able to leave by 4pm to get home and take a shower etc to get ready to go into Boston. Ian drove me to the commuter rail and then I ended up walking in the lovely weather from North Station to Union Square to meet up with Pam and her friends Matt, Ant, and Erin. Fun t'was had by all at Sally O'Briens as we stayed for Honky Tonk Night. Tons of creepy old men hitting on young women lol. We stayed at the bar until 12:15am-ish and they drove me back to Lucy and Care's house in which I promptly fell asleep.
I woke up the next day and had breakfast with Bill, Lucy, and Dan. A mixture of cocoa puffs and golden grhams in ONE bowel. Then I ended up meeting Spencer, Lynch, Katie Martin, and Malhoney inbetween Park Street and Government Center for the Gay Pride parade in Boston. Then I went to spent the rest of the day with Spencer. Got drunk for the first time that day at a bar in the North End, then hung around all day and met up with Moira after she got out of work. Then all of us went to a party in Forest Hills and fun was had by all. After having a BBQ and drinking beer I took the orange line back to North Station... but in a very unique way. Take Forest Hills to Oak Grove... then back to North Station. See, one can do this when they fall asleep on the T at Ruggles and then doesn't wake up until the train stops at Oak Grove. AKA Eric Slept through 13 stops on the Orange Line, 5 of which were past North Station. I ended up taking the train back to North Station and walking back to Lucy and Care's. I got there around 1:30am and talked for a while with a very whacked out of nyquil Caroline. Then crashed... THEN:
I proceded to wake up at 4:45am with what I can only describe as mild food poisoning. I woke up feeling super overheated and about to throw up... then I did. Then I felt like super shit. Tried to take a shower.. that failed, now I was just wet, naked, and still throwing up. So I threw up for like a half hour on and off. Then, once bile came up, I felt better. Sober puking is the worst. Brushed my teeth and headed back to bed. Woke up at 7:30am to tell Pam that I was indeed feeling better and that she should plan on coming into the city. Then I kept repeatedly waking up to make sure i didn't over sleep to meet Pam at South Station at 11am. I also had some cool dreams, one involving airplanes and fire-chickens. Despite waking up early... i ended up getting to South Station by like 11:30am. Then proceeded to have quite the wonderful day with the Pamela.
1. Walk around Down Town 2. Eric gets to geek out with all the old revolutionary war history in the park street cemetary. 3. take the red line to Harvard Square and walk all over hell trying to find a place to eat and ended up eating at Uno's 4. A lovely walk down one of the old streets of Cambridge and passed all these gardens and million dollar homes. Wicked nice walk. Did that for like an hour 5. Stopped at the tea shop, Jasmine Milk Tea with Leechee jelly. Hung out for an hour and we super trendy sipping out tea. 6. Walked around Harvard Yard and other parts of east of Harvard for a long while. 7. Red line to Central and had pizza at the pizza place next to the Middle East. Then hung out for a long while. 8. Red line to south station for her, and me, I headed back to North Station.
So twas a very very lovely day, we didn't stop talking for like 8 hours today. Now I'm super tired from being out of shape and walking all over hell. time for sleep. |

Then TONS of pictures with friends. Highlights of the day: actually getting a hug and praise from Ryvkin, and Javier Marion praising Me, Gary, and Maggie on still being some of his favorite students even though we only had two classes with him and I ran into him once in the mall. He really loved our Freshmen Year Seminar class. He made donations in our name to the Henry David Thereau fund and we got a green "live stron"-esque bracet. It really was a thoughtful gesture. Thus solidifiying Javier as the coolest guy ever lol.
Went out for dinner with my family and my grandmother. THEN, like i've been saying for the last two weeks, I got sick as soon as I was stopped being stressed. I've had a dry cough for the last two weeks, and I woke up with postnasal drip and a soar throat. Now i'm achey everywhere and exhausted. Man, I cannot wait to go to bed. |

But this whole "no more class" thing isn't going to sink in until I'm done with finals. Here's the plan for the next 1.3 weeks:
Thursday: Distinction Presentation Friday: Saturday: Sunday: Monday: Buddhism "Buddhist Temple Visit Reflection Paper" & "Buddhist Art Exhibit Paper" Tuesday: ~7 weeks of Stats Homework, Stats Project, all missing P.Chem Lab Reports, 25 page distinction paper Wednesday: Thursday: Friday: P.Chem Final Saturday: Stats Final & Buddhism Final
Everything, Absolutely EVERYTHING in my academic career up to this point is finished at 4:45pm Saturday May 2, 2009. Pre-school to Senior Year College 18 years of schooling is DONE... at least for one year then its back for another 5 to 7 years :-( of more intense study than I've ever done. This is just a lovely pit stop at the 3/4 mark of my educational career.

| | Jekyll and Hyde- Take Me As I Am | ] | A very good weekend, if I do say so myself. I ended up leaving the lab on Friday in which Ryvkin was actually happy for a change. Friday night for the most part was great except for minor shit shows at the end. On a walk to Bradley's Ryan Murph found $20 on the street... what a wonderful time to find extra money. Drinking beer at the world war II memorial with friends, lovely. Saturday, me and Pat went to go see Jekyll and Hyde at MCPHS to go and support Pam and Sara who both portrayed quite lovely renditions of 'hos. I really enjoyed the show, especially the music. I need to get me a copy of the score. So the girls were great. In the middle of intermission to turn to Pat and say that I really like the sound of the keyboard the pianist was using and went over to see what brand he was using in thoughts that maybe one day when I have the funds I'll get a nice sounding piano-keyboard... i walk over and it turns out I already own that keyboard LOL. It was a Yamaha DGX-500 (or 505, i didn't get that close to it to see). So thus I have saved myself money LOL... somehow. After me and Pat got back from the show, I started getting super tired and then started feeling kind of ill. I had a throw-upy stomach, though I never did yak. I lied in bed for like 3 hours and was feeling fine around 10. Hung out with Lear, Brien, and Mike for a couple of hours and ended up cooking really crappy steaks for all the "enjoy". Hung out with Pat, Ryan, Sara, Pam, and James for an hour or so. Tried going to bed at 2 and failed. Then hung out with Aking, Annie, Coire, Brums, and Spence in my room until 3. SLEEP
Today was so nice outside. It was also nice to sleep until forever with not drugs in my system to make sleeping suck more. A bunch of us (aka, me, coire, aking, annie, mike, and brums) too a walk to Super 88. Came back, had dinner, I sat on my ass for a while. Then I went to the lab to check my e-mail and work on my Buddhism paper, only to discover...
My first interview invitation at the Dana Farber! YAY! I'm trying not to get my hopes up, since I know I'm a chemist and this is particularly a lab dealing with biology and blood... but I wont get down on myself. I'm just going to take it as it comes. Hopefully more invitations for interviews will come my way. I can't tell if this reduces my stress or makes it worse, but I am super excited! |

| First Trip to NYC and failed beer |
[Mar. 12th, 2009|10:41 am] |
So on Monday me and McKendry started a mini-road trip to New York City. She got to my house around 10am on Monday...but it took us a half hour to get to the beginning of Spring Valley! The snow was coming down so wet and hard it basically turned to ice under the wheels of the car. We didn't think for some reason and thought the mini could make it up the steep hill on the otherside of my circle... nope. That completley failed. Then we couldn't even make it up the lower grade hill on the other side. I ended up shoveling a swath like half Sping Valley to give the car something from traction. Anyhoo, after a laborious half hour and soaking wet snow we are on our way.
We made great time getting to the city. I believe we made it to Brooklyn by 2/2:30. Just driving around the outskirts of Manhattan blew my mind at how big the city is. Though, I feel like I need to comment on how much better Massachusetts looks than New York and Conneticut. Drivng through those states (on multiple occasions), everything looks, to put it simply, shittastic. Unused buildings are left to dilapidate and anachronistic. Driving through Mass is so much more aesthetically pleasing. Anyhoo, so we get to Regan's apartment.
After parking the car, me and McKendry took the subway to Union Square to meet up with Aking and Annie (apparently Cori and Gary had gone off else where). We didn't have too much time before we were suppose to meet Regan after he got out of work, so the four of us ended up going to this really nice tea shop. I got some weird looking tea, even though on the menu it just said green milk tea. It was delicious, but it was this really opaque and heavy purple liquid. I wish I knew how to properly make milk tea because its so good. I'm pretty sure its just condensed milk beacuse regular milk just fucks it up. After that, me and McKendry meet Regan at his work and have dinner at a little diner. Then its off to the gay bar: Splash.
I've been to a lesbian bar with Spencer, Aking, Ryan, and the loretto girls before, but this was like none other. I believe me, katie, and katie's friend Tod were the only straight people out of the maybe 300 people who were there, but that was expected LOL. Anyhoo, there was much singage of broadway show tunes and consumption of EXPENSIVE drinks (thank god Regan knew of the two for one special before 9pm). To put it in perspective, Boston Lager was $7.50 a bottle. Around 12am a live performance went on of this woman (who happened to be Tod's friend) singing more broadway show tunes. She was really good, making all her notes look effortless.
I think we left that bar around 12:30am and went to this place called Fat Cat's which basically was a bar and game room. By this point I was hammered, but they had Allagash on tap... so i had to get some. It was old, but still delicious. We all played shuffleboard to about 2:30am or so. Then me, katie, and regan hoped a cab ride back to Brooklyn.
Me and Kate wake up at 10am and actually get our collective asses in gear... save for one problem. As we were leaving Regan's apartment the key wont come out of the door....... we try for almost an hour to get it out..... WHAT THE FUCK!? So Regan has to take off work to come home and remove the key because his landlord wasn't picking up. Luckily, we weren't total assholes because Regan couldn't get the key out for a while either.
The three of us finally head into Time Square. We walk around a ton, visit Toys R Us, the nintendo store, fao schwartz, and the M&M store. Walked all around broadway, tried to buy rush tickets to Chicago and failed. Regan took us up to the 43rd floor of the Marriot and my ears poped 4 times. Walked around Central Park for a while, then went to stand in line for lottery tickets to In the Heights. Lost the lottery, and went for food at a place in Hell's Kitchen called Vynl. Got some amazing cheesecake at Juniors, then took the subway to the Brooklyn Bridge, walked across the entire bridge and took the subway to Regan's house. Me and Kate were exhausted. Watched some TiVo then crashed.
The next day was just full of driving.... and more driving once McKendry dopped me off at home.
THIS STORY IS MORE FUNNY THAN THE LAST
MORE DRIVING: aka the epic quest for beer and failure. John had dinner at my house because his parents went to aruba. We ended up going to boarders becasue we were bored... then onto our epic quest for good beer. We could have driven to boston and back, and then back to boston again on the amount of miles we went to find beer aka failure. Because we found a lot more failure than beer.
1. Try the Liquor store on 28.... no... it was only wine and liquor 2. its only 7:15pm lets go try the huge liquor store on the highway. 3. Get on 93, drive forever 4. Wait... we're at exit 4..... FUCK, the huge liquor store is on 95! 5. Turn around, 93S to 213 to 495 to 95. (for roughly 50 miles) 6. We find more failure. The huge liquor store is ONLY WINE AND LIQUOR!!! We don't want to get drunk, we just want tasty beerses 7. Wait... no .... no.... NOOOOO fuck you New Hampshire tolls. By going to this liquor store you HAVE to pay the tolls on 95 because its placed RIGHT before the tolls and you can't turn around and go south. 8. WAIT, fuck you NH you made me pay the toll to get on 95.... then make me pay AGAIN because I barely turned around. Fuck you, now we have NO beer and -$1.50 9. Drive 32 miles back to Methuen, then on to 28 10. We buy delicious beer at the DeMoulas on 28 roughly 8 miles from my house. Fail, but at least we finished with beer. |

Another good day of break, but yet another day of waking up crappy. I woke up with a HUGE headache. I'm pretty sure I have a sinus infection. Did nothing for a while, then me and John ended up going to Winnekenni Castle and severely underestimated the size of the lake. We ended up walking around for over two hours. Came back home and both me and my mom ate at the Davis'. We actually all had good conversations, then all the "adults" crashed around 9:30 and me and John ended up watching TV until like midnight. After, I finished off my laundry whilst watching Grave of the Fireflies. Wow. Such a sad movie, but such a good story. A world war II movie that never focuses on the war itself but of two orphaned japanese children who's house was destroyed in a firebombing. Now its 2am, and I still have clothes to fold, but tomorrow morning me and McKendry are heading down to New York City. It'll be my first time there, so hopefully it'll be a bunch o' fun. |

Quite a nice way to start the last spring break of my life. The last thing we did last night was eat quasadillas and watched Rocky Horror. Went to bed, woke up at the terrible hour of 8, but that was forgotten pretty fast. Hung out with Aking all morning and left around 10am when my mom picked me up. I tried going to the Sovereign Bank up here in Salem, NH...but apparently they don't have the jurisdication to reverse the charges the Boston branch gave me... lovely. And i was correct in my assumption, I accidentally withdrew 40 dollars from my checking rather than my savings which caused the overdraft. Anyhoo, thats irrelvant to the post lol. Anyhoo, it was such a nice day out. The first day in months to drive around with the windows down. I listened to the entirety of In Keeping Secrets of Silent Earth: 3, I had to take a LONG detour somewhere into the middle of no where New Hampshire. The drive was so nice. Then me and my mom ended up taking a drive to Kittery, Maine to get me new dress pants. Then had some lovely dinner at a little bistro in Amesbury, MA. All the stuff there was home made. Twas awesome. Then me and mom watched Harry Potter 3 on TV. Now I'm sitting around, watching Bettlejuice. Quite relaxing now. |

WHAT. THE. FUCK! Fucking terrorists. Last time it was Hezzbolah, now its Hamas (again). Apparently my dad is like a rocket magnet. In 2006, rockets were fired at Haifa when my dad was there. Now rockets continue to be fired into Gaza and Israel is threatening another response. Luckily my dad's company negotiated that he'll work out of Tel Aviv rather than the originally planed 10 miles from Gaza location. Loverly. Hopefully my mom isn't watching TV. I know my dad is fine, since most of Israel is rather calm, but it still nerve racking. So yeah, day 1 of 5 weeks in Israel. Bah. |
